AGRICULTURAL RESEARCH SERVICE (Preliminary) EXAM 2017 in combination with NATIONAL ELIGIBILITY TEST (NET) 2018
Agricultural Scientists Recruitment Board (ASRB) shall hold a combined Agricultural Research Service (ARS)- 2017 (Preliminary Examination) and National Eligibility Test (NET)-2018 Examination during 06-April-2018 to 13-April-2018 at 23 centres across India.
Agricultural Scientist Recruitment Board (ASRB) was established in order to support the ICAR (Indian Council of Agricultural Research) and other Agricultural Universities of the State level for selection of competent personnel for the positions of Assistant Professors/ Junior Scientists/ Scientists as well as Lecturers for the research and development of Agricultural Science in India. This board is functioning tirelessly to fulfill its objective of supporting ICAR in finding the right personnel for various levels of operation in India.

Scientists [through ARS Examination]: 29 Disciplines/ 195 Posts
The ARS (Preliminary) Examination is a qualifying examination and its marks will not be carried forward for determining final merit of the candidates. All those candidates desirous of appearing for ARS Examination are required to take both the Preliminary and Mains Examination and viva-voce. Only those candidates who qualify the ARS2017 (Preliminary) Examination will be eligible to appear in the ARS 2017 (Mains) Examination.
Candidates declared successful in ARS 2017 (Mains) Examination and viva-voce will be recommended for appointment as Scientists in Agricultural Research Service (ARS) of Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR).
For NET-2018: There is no restrictions on the number of posts as it is a Awarding Test to allow a person eligibility to act as a Lecturer in Agricultural Colleges/ Universities.
National Eligibility Test (NET) is a qualifying examination for determining eligibility for the position of Lecturer/Assistant Professor in the State Agricultural Universities (SAUs) and other Agricultural Universities (AUs). Candidates clearing the National Eligibility Test will be eligible to apply for the post of Lecturers or Assistant Professors in the SAUs/AUs.
Pay Scale: The finally selected candidates through ARS Examination-2014 will be recommended for appointment as Scientists in the Indian Council of Agricultural Research in the Pay Band-III of Rs.15600 – Rs.39100 plus Research Grade Pay (RGP) of Rs.6000/-. Other allowances and perks will be applicable as per ICAR regulations.
NET will be a qualifying examination in nature to determine eligibility of a person as a Lecturer/ Assistant Professors in State Agricultural Universities and other Agricultural Universities.
Important Eligibility Conditions:
Academic Requirements: The candidates interested for the both these examinations must have secured a Masters Degree in concerned branches of Agricultural Science with Specialization as defined on the detailed notification on or before 24.06.2018. Age Requirement: The applicant must have attended the minimum age of 21 years and must not have crossed maximum age of 32 years of age by 01-Jnauary-2018 to attend the ARS-2017.
The applicant must have attended the minimum age of 21 years to attend the NET 2018. However, there will be age relaxation admissible for reserved category candidates as per rules of ICAR.
For SC/ ST/ PWD and Women candidates: Rs. 250 [ARS-Nil + NET- Rs. 250/-]
For General: Rs.1500/- [ARS- Rs. 500/- + NET- Rs. 1000/-] For Other Backward Class (OBC) Non Creamy Layer: Rs. 1000/- [ARS- Rs. 500/- + NET- Rs. 500/-] The candidates applying for any one examination are required to remit examination fee for that examination only as mentioned above. Payment can be made through Debit Card/Credit Card/Net Banking from any Bank from 1000 hrs on 06.02.2018 till 1700 hrs on 02.03.2018.
Number of Attempts: The number of attempts for appearing in the Agricultural Research Service (ARS) Examination will be limited to SIX for all candidates (whether M.Sc./Ph.D.) including the in-service candidates of I.C.A.R. However, this restriction will not apply to SC, ST and PwD candidates, who are otherwise eligible.
There is no restriction on number of attempts for appearing in the National Eligibility Test.
The number of attempts made by the candidates prior to ARS Examination–2011 will not be taken into account for counting the number of attempts made.
Probation Period: Candidates selected for appointment to the Service will be appointed as Scientists in the Service on probation for a period of two years which may be extended, if necessary.
Mode of Selection: The ARS 2017 (Preliminary) and NET (I) 2018 Examination will be conducted in Online format at the designated Centres. The questions of the Examination will be available in bilingual form i.e. in Hindi and English medium. The answers are to be indicated on the Computer itself during the Examination.
(a) ARS-2017 (Preliminary) & NET (I) 2018 (Objective Type) 150 marks 2 hours duration
1/3 marks will be deducted for each wrong answer in ARS-2017 (Preliminary) Examination (Objective Type)
(b) ARS-2017 (Mains) (Descriptive Type) 240 marks 3 hours duration
(c) Viva-voce 60 marks
ARS-2017 Mains Examination will be conducted in conventional paper and pen mode. The questions of the examination in the Test Booklet (Question Paper cum Answer Booklet) will be available in bilingual form i.e. in Hindi and English medium. The applicants will have to indicate their medium of Examination in the online application form itself.
The candidates will be at liberty to communicate in Hindi or English during the viva-voce of ARS Examination.
